I have A LOT of paint in my garage, how long does it last? Some of it is opened some of it isn't. It's primer, semi-gloss, flat, and hi gloss. All different colors. Can I still use it?

I say yes, you still can use it.First, wash the lids off. That keeps the dust or whatever from getting into the paint can.If the paint smells really bad,(believe me,you'll know ) it means the paint has gone sour and is no good. If there's dried paint on the top,it acts like a seal, and the paint is good.Just take it off with a stir stick.Better yet, take it to the hardware store, and have them put it into the paint Shaker, and ask them to check for you. I have paint that's twenty years old. I am still using it.When you go to store paint, make sure the lid is closed good, and store it upside down. That helps it from getting rancid.

the colour would not play a section, rather. Gloss paints may develop into tacky yet you'll comprehend at the same time as to purchase new. accepted latex paint on the different hand very last invariably- "flat" latex paints very last 10+ years see you later because the lid is hammered on tight! :)

the color doesn't play a factor, really. Gloss paints might become tacky but you'll know when to buy new.
Regular latex paint on the other hand last forever- "flat" latex paints last 10+ years as long as the lid is hammered on tight! :)

If the paint is old it may have a thick skin on it.if you remove this carefully you may find that your paint is perfectly O.K to use.
If you are in any doubt( Bin it)

YOU SHOULD TRY TO USE PAINT IN A YEAR OR TWO OF IT COMING OFF THE SHELF. IT'S BEST TO KEEP PAINT IN A CLIMATE CONTROLLED ENVIROMENT IF YOU LIVE SOMEWHERE WHERE IT'S EXTREME FROM SEASON TO SEASON [REALLY COLD/REALLY HOT] YOU SHOULD STORE PAINT INSIDE. CAUSE GOING FROM THE FROZEN STATE TO HOT AS HE!!. IT'LL EFFECT IT. IF YOU HAVE CANS THAT HAVE PAINT USED OUT OF THEM, SHAKE THEM UP REALLY WELL AND THEN OPEN THEM USE YOUR SENSE OF SMELL IF IT'S ANYWHERE REMOTELY TO SPOILED FOOD/CURDLED MILK PLACE KITTY LITTER IN THE CAN AND DISPOSE OF CORRECTLY. IF STILL SMELLS LIKE FRESH PAINT, GO TO THE THICK CONSISTENCY IF IT LOOKS STRINGY/GOOEY PLACE KITTY LITTER AND DISPOSE OF, IF IT'S CRACKED AND DRIED UP JUST DISPOSE IT.

If it's a water base paint smell it, it will spoil. It will smell like spoiled milk, toss it then. oil base won't spoil. will last forever as long as it's sealed.
