Magnesium carbonate has a very low solubility, and so you will see a white precipitate of it. Sodium ions and chloride ions will stay in solution, and take no part at all.

what gonpat said except if it's in aqueous solution (water) then the nacl'll dissolve; completely remove na and cl from both sides of the equation
