My laptops screen is not showing anything and the laptop is on. What's wrong with it?

That's a little too vague to be answered right away. Have you dropped it changed any settings recently? What brand and model of laptop do you have? Have you tried anything yet, and if so what? This can be caused by several things.

was it hibernating previously? hold down the power button for 5-6 seconds and it will shut off. Hope you weren't working on anything important..

unplug the power cord, take the battery out and once the comp is off, put the battery back in place, power cable too and restart.
