I just found out I am pregnant and have been smoking the entire month. Obviously I quit now but I am a bit worried now. Should things hopefully be okay?

The more a pregnant woman smokes, the greater the risk to her baby. However, if a woman stops smoking by the end of her first trimester of pregnancy, she is NO MORE LIKELY TO have a low-birthweight baby than a woman who never smoked. Even if a woman has not been able to stop smoking in her first or second trimester, stopping during the third trimester can still improve her baby’s growth. Basically this boils down to you have done the right thing by stopping immediately after you have found out. The info. above states stopping before the end of the 1st trimester which means before 12 weeks of pregnancy (or 3 months along) I am no MD but I worked as an OB Medical Asst for a Major HMO for 7 years. There should be minimal if no risks to your unborn baby for smoking during the first month. A lot more women do a lot worse things than smoking in the first month and don't even know that they are pregnant. I was taking prescprition diet pills (which is basically an amphetamine) for the first three weeks and I hada healthy 8lb 2oz. daughter. You'll be fine - Best of luck and congtrats!!!

I didn't know I was pregnant until I was 11 weeks and I smoked like a chimny the WHOLE TIME! I had no idea and when I found out I freaked and asked my doctor (I also partied pretty hard). He said it wouldn't be a problem...and it hasn't been. Some people smoke through their entire pregnancies and have perfectly normal children. You'll be just fine.

I am not saying it's healthy.. however I smoked the entire 9 months I was pregnant, and my daughter was born a healthy 7 lbs. 2 oz., with no health problems. The thing that WAS bad was after she was born. I continued to smoke. Even though I went outside and never smoked around her, I carried the smoke in on my clothes. She went to the doctor 6 times for ear infections before she turned a year old! It finally came out that I smoked, and the doctor told me to stop smoking unless I wanted them to have to put tubes in my baby's ears!

when i was pregnant last time a smoked for the first month. I asked a lot of nurses and doctors. Everytime i meet a nurse or doctor I just asked because it kept worrins. They all said the same thing. If you stop as you know you won't harm the baby. But if you continue during the whole 9 months th bbay can get ezcema.
and congratulations.

As long as you have quit you should hopefully be ok. However, I would really take care of yourself. Make sure you tell your doctor too. But there are a lot of women out there who have smoked till they found out. You should be okay though.
