Is it just so people can feel like they are a part of something bigger than themselves, and I do like it, but why do we earn points, that part of it seem pointless to me. Do you get a prize or something if you have the best answer and the most points? (Im kidding, but you know..)

Also, why do you lose points for asking a question? Asking the yahoo community for their opinion should count for something!(lol)

you see my friend, people in general are greedy. if someone had a question that needed to be answered with nothing in return, no one would even think of helping them (well some people would) but, if people feel like they are actually gaining something out of it, then it gives them something to shoot for. when people gain points for answering questions, it is almost like a false sense of currency, so not only do the points give people a reason to help people out, but it will also give them a reason to really try to answer the best they can to get even more points. ... well thats my logic, hope it helps =)

We all wonder about many different things such as the meaning of life or should I go to school tomorrow. And often we don't know the answer and don't feel like doing a search. Yahoo Answers is one way to get a quick response. Unfortunately, you get a lot of rubbish as an answer now and then and it is up to you to sort the wheat from the chaff. But at least the basics are there. Points? The person who answers is being rated by his peers and he/she gets an idea of what is suitable. I play bridge and I get a rating. Athletes get a rating. But there is no value whatsoever in boasting about it.

It would be nice if we could trade points for different emoticons, or features from Yahoo. Remember the guy who traded up the paper clip, for a house in the praries? If Yahoo could make a catalouge of prizes that you could get for points - that would be nice. (like software), or, they should poll thier fans, and get suggestions. I'm sure there would be plenty of sponsers to get Yahoo Answers people to spend thier points. Otherwise, the points are meaningless.

It enables us to show off our superior intellect and also brings us down a few pegs when we make a complete ba**s up answering a quesion.
Some times we get a little 'buzz' if we can actually help some one, but more often than not I personnally get a few really good laughs from it all!
And it is great to ask a question and get helped out, it opens up the world to other peoples thoughts.
Apart from that it's cr*p!
Hope this helps?

Yahoo Answers is mainly a form of entertainment. Yes, it can also be very helpful getting advice from other down to earth people. It's so much fun. I love it!

The points are something to watch as they go up/down. Also you can have a few more benefits if you are in the upper levels. Like unlimited amount of questions to ask or answer.

Have fun.

Gee, I didn't know you could get something or anything because you answer questions to help someone out with a problem. Points are just levels you get from getting lots of correct responses back from asker's

You get to rate and choose the best information, the higher your level, the more you influence the information sharing process. Sometimes, there will be a question that a large group of people need an answer to, then you'll see one of the really top level players answer with astounding clarity. That's the purest version of what its all about.

It's a social thing and it lets yahoo draw people

Mostly I think a visit to wikipedia or cracking open a book could answer a lot of the questions.

It is a forum in which we, the people of varied age groups, different countries, get to pool our knowledge, including some fun.

I take it rather seriously and ask and answer questions in a serious mode.
