I just got my hamster for 2 days. Just when it got kinda used to me, my brother, after petting it, forgets to close the cage and it got out. I didn't know it was out, i was just sitting on the floor and i sorta...crushed it, well not really crush. I just know I pressed on it too hard or something but now it's really scared, maybe paranoid. It just keep running all over the cage, digging, trying to get out. And when I got close it it, it tries to run away. It didn't run away from me before. What can I do to regain its trust? :(

TRUST- put treats on a spoon & get it to eat from that first until it will take it out of your hand again, maybe it will sit in your hand again & eat?

AWWW how sad... if he is running around, it sounds like he is okay, however, make sure that he is eating, and drinking like normal. If he doesnt, take him to the vet. let him be for a bit so that he can calm down. Then after a day or so, introduce yourself again. Little bit by little bit. let him heat from your hand, and give gentle pats. Make sure your hamster cage stays closed!! Put a spring on it if needbe. Good Luck!

sounds more like it got a taste of freedom and started to turn wild again hampsters are basically born with insticts on how to survive on their own and if it was born in a caged environment then it had gotten used to people but they dont lose their insticts and as soon as they get out some may revert back to their natural instincts as a defense and survival mechanism which means you just have to give it time to reaquaint himself with humans best thing to do is just get as close to it as you can without scaring it badly make sure it wont get out again and steping on them is definetly not a good way sorry had to put that last part .

It sounds like he doesn't have a running wheel, so get him one. This will help him calm down and feel safer within his cage. Wait a day or two before you handle him again, then go slowly and carefully. Offer him delicious treats. Take it a little slow, and he'll get used to you again. I'm glad he wasn't seriously hurt.
