Can't be used and abused unless you open your mouth before setting into play a series of events that will see your thoughts into fruition at which point you copyright your transformed idea.
Point is, keep it to yourself until it's more than an "Idea".

One time I worked a job (actually, it was only a seasonal job) and they made me sign something that said basically anything I thought up, or produced or anything during the period of time I was working for them, was the property of the university. Which I thought was crazy.

They might as well be used for something. It is like I have been confined to my quarters until a specific time. Sometimes it is better just to wait even if we don't know what it is we are waiting for.
