It depends on what you want to do during your vacation. If you are into beaches, hikes and want to visit Hawaii for the natural beauty then Kauai is your best bet.
Maui is too "touristy".
Oahu (especially Honolulu and Waikiki) is very commercial but has good beaches up north.
Lastly Big Island provides a good mix of everything but it takes you about 2-3 hrs to get from one side of the island(Hilo) to the other(Kona).

Depends on what you want to do. You can visit several of the islands on your trip, although you should try to spend at least 5 days on each island. I enjoyed Kauai the best. Beautiful, quiet, and very relaxing. Spent 7 days there, 7 in Maui, and 1 in Honolulu(just to see Pearl Harbor). Try researching the islands to find out what activities you want to participate in. They you can tailor your trip to meet your needs.

Go to the Philippines, just as beautiful and each dollar spends like 35. Filipinos love Americans but Hawaiians hate "hollies" Mainlanders.

I know Maui is mostly an expensive tourist/honeymoon island...I would say the big island...more true hawaiian culture which in my opinion is half of what its about...the islands themselves maan...that makes up the difference.....
