Check the tubing and cog wheels for any build up. Algae builds up inside it as well and will cause lowered suction capability. When I clean my filter, I always shake out the inside until no more comes out to make sure it runs properly.

I have an aqua clear 50 and the suction is pretty good. I would check the impeller for slug build up because this will not allow it to spin as fast as it should. Also don't get bio wheel filters because they are expensive to maintain and they constantly go through filter cartridges also the bushings that hold the bio wheel in place will wear out in 3 to 4 months I know because I had a Penguin 30 and It was such a wast. the aqua clear are the cheapest to maintain and they work the best.

nicely the filter out I have is an Aquaclear. that's quiet powerful and consumer-pleasant to maintain. Ive had it for extra or less 3 months now and has worked tremendous and it keeps the water effective and clean and the fish chuffed. I even ought to admit the clarification i purchased it became because the community puppy shop had a 50% sale on their aqua clean products one weekend. It has a three degree filter out gadget - first a sponge - then filtered with the help of a carbon bag and finally a 'bio bag' (which i imagine is rather bag of porus rocks meant to carry 'sturdy micro organism'. Im not particular how the pump makes the water go with the help of the three layers in spite of the indisputable fact that it variety of feels to paintings tremendous. The sponge and bio bag are nonetheless in tremendous structure absolutely ingredient i had to do is rinse them in some aquarium once. the absolutely section that i modify is the carbon bag which I in many situations replace once in preserving with month. desire this helps. Cheers

When you clean your filter apparatus it is also imperative not only to replace the filter media, but to wipe down the inside. Generally in powerfilters there are only a few components which need mention. Filters need to be replaced regularly, generally when waterflow is impeded when it is being returned to the tank. When you replace it cover the following aswell.

The tubing which is used to siphon water into the filter tray requires cleaning inside and out.

The filter tray itself will require a good wipedown and rinse.

The Impeller mechanism needs to be scrubbed with a bristle brush.

The Impeller rotor requries a good wipe aswell.

Most always the impeller rotor will be able to be removed from the filter tray with a counterclockwise turn of 90 degrees. Wipe it out with a rag, in here is a mechanism which spins magnets, even the slightest buildup of algae on these magnets and your impeller will spin slower, reducing waterflow through your filter.

. It should be strong but i would not use it to filter 30 gallons of water. Take it apart and clean it well. At least replace the carbon. You can rinse the foam and ceramics out under a strong water hose outside. Better yet replace all filter components. If that don't help get another impeller.

I would really consider ditching the aqua-clear and going with a bio wheel filter. they not only give you the best filtration for a freshwater tank, they also do a great job of aeration for your water. if you buy a filter you should always buy them bigger then what you need. if you have a 10 gal buy a filter rated for a 20 gal if you gave a 20gal get a filter rated for a 40gal and so on and so on. that way you don't have a lack of filtration. better to have to much then not enough i always say

it probably needs an extensive cleaning clogging and buildup can lower pressure, and then the parts may just be wearing out- it may be time to replace it.
