The modems best for dial-up performance wise are usually considered to be hardware based or controller based internal modems, or an external modem. The reasoning is that these modems will do more of the work themselves, rather than making the CPU do it, and these modems have chips specially designed to work over the phone line.

Winmodems or softmodems make the CPU do most of the work. This means the CPU has to make time to do the modem's work, whereas a hardware based modem doesn't tie up the CPU. However, most modern CPUs won't be slowed down by this at all.

A hardware based or external modem will cost more though, because there is more to the modem than a softmodem. Also, some external modems require a serial port, and most newer computers don't have serial ports. A softmodem will cost less because it does more processing in software.

The best for cost/performance is probably the mid-range (about $30-$40) fax/modem. They do some processing in hardware, but some processing in software. My recommendation is the US Robotics USR5699B, unless you need a full hardware modem.

Note this is for dialup, not DSL or Cable.

WELL THE BEST SUITABLE MODEM FOR USING INTERNET IN INDIA IS MOTOROLA (ONLY 4 DAILUP CONNC.). YOU MAY GO FOR ANOTHER OPTION i.e BETTER THAN THE BEST D-LINK WHICH IS UNIVERSALLY TRUSTED IN INDIA .
