Here are some explanations which I think may be useful..

And it is the answer for Question no 1

Medical transcription, also known as MT, is an allied health profession which deals in the process of transcribing or converting recorded dictations by physicians and/or other healthcare professionals regarding patient medical record to a written text. This written text may be stored as printed and/or electronic data. The electronic storage of medical records are the preferred means of most medical professionals in order to document patient care and facilitate healthcare delivery regardless of geographical distance. Medical transcription establishes document format, data entry, corrects spelling and medical terminology errors, transcribe/edit documents, and complies with medical-legal policies and procedures.

An individual who performs medical transcription is known as a medical transcriptionist, or less frequently and incorrectly, a medical transcriber. A medical transcriptionist is the one responsible for documenting patient medical records. The term medical transcriber may also refer to electronic equipment used to perform medical transcription.

It is the Answer for Question no 2

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities u gain from learning MT

Knowledge of medical terminology
Transcription skills.
Ability to sort, check, count, and verify numbers.
Skill in the use of operating basic office equipment.
Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions.
Ability to document work in progress.
Records maintenance skills.

Though there r so many advantages u may gain from learning MT, I currently don't see anything which may be useful for filmaking and acting class.. I mean the above abilities are not essentail directly for your class, it may be useless in the field of acting and filmaking....
But in some ways u can use that knowledge if u r making some kinda movies which may contain medical explanations..

And if you wanna find another profession when u are not absorbed any more by filmaking and acting, it may serve u as a second profession u can choose..

Medical transcription is typing medical reports and letters as dictated by a doctor. I am trained for it and do not recommend it now because more and more doctors are using voice recognition software programs that automatically type it as they speak. So it is going to be a dying profession in the future.

If your mom wants you to do something in medical office, you should consider Billing and Coding. It pays well once you have experience.

Best Wishes,

Sue
