Because they will certainly spend many lifetimes in hell...My heart cries tonight as I read the story of NYPD officers firing fifty rounds into a car of unarmed men leaving a bachelor party. The groom to be is now dead, the night before the wedding, there were no weapons in the car. I'm sorry to say this is called murder Yes?

To all law enforcement people everywhere, thankyou for putting yourself in harms way for us, you are heros to me; however, I still mourn these deaths. I cannot help thinking what if I had been partying with friends and they were shot to death.

People are raised to believe that people in authority are good, and they can't deal with the idea that they've misplaced their trust in the police, or that the police do anything but "serve and protect". The police *have* to be good...the people killed in these stupid military-style police actions *have* to have done something to deserve what happened or else their whole worldview falls apart. It hurts to realize that something you've believed your whole life is wrong.

How many more times does it have to happen? It's been happening for years, and those who do speak up about it find their cries falling on deaf ears. See http://www.theagitator.com/archives/027259.php#027259 for just a few of the recent cases.

See http://www.cato.org/pub_display.php?pub_id=6476 for a more detailed report on "The Rise of Paramilitary Police Raids in America" and the innocent people brutalized and killed by these thugs with guns.

Edit: The more I read, the more it sounds like a case of them being drunk drivers (which would make sense for a bachelor party). One article describes them turning a corner and hitting the first van, then backing up and hitting the cop before going forward again into another car. It sounds like a three point turn gone horribly wrong. I really find it hard to believe that opening fire was the only way this could have been resolved, but I think given that information there's a legitimate case for the driver being at fault in this case.

Well from what I've read of the story, in 3 different NYC newspapers, it doesn't look good for the cops.

No cop was injured, the 3 guys were unarmed, and they fired 51 shots. 31 by one cop alone. And the 3 men were unarmed, so it can't be said the cops were firing back. Also, the cops were in plain clothes.

They even cuffed the two injured guys to their hospital beds. Then uncuffed them when the press found out.

Most likely the 3 guys were drunk driving.

Still, 51 shots?

Where is the story? Surely they couldn't have done it for no reason... 50 rounds? a bit excessive for a "mistake"... there has to be more to the story...

Well, now... you skipped the part about them ramming the police van with their altima... 50 rounds still seems a bit much, but I'm still reading...

Ok... not only did they hit the van... but an undercover officer... maybe they were drunk and stupid, maybe not... still reading...

Ok, not finding anything else... other than Potential Vehicular Homicide!!! 50 rounds is excessive, yes, but then, were there really 50 rounds? Witnesses said they heard 20 shots at most... yes, some of them could have been overlapped. but when 8 officers have a car thrown at them... as soon as that first shot is fired... survival instinct. Why did they ram the van, and the officer?!

It is unfortunate that some young men got drunk and drove a car into the side of another car, which could have been a load of girlscouts on the way to class and could have resulted in homicide charges against them. It was their very bad luck to ram a carload of undercover policemen who could only believe they were under attack by one of the many drug gangs, some wacko they put in the slammer. who could guess? Perhaps they should have asked to see thier drivers license before firing but tell the truth: would you have done that? If so we need your help in Iraq to train their army in handling dangerous situations humanely. Oh please do volunteer.

I think the real question should be how can Al Sharpton come to the defense of someone who tried to commit the vehicular homicide of a police officer? If you don't like the police I suggest from now on if someone tries to break into your house or harm your family you should ask them to leave instead of calling those bad police officers.

Why? Because not enough people make enough noise in protest. By this time next week, the only people who will remember what happened will be the would-be wife and family.

well they wouldn't randomly fire at a car..they had to of had a reason i am now taking a class in school on law inforcment the number one rule is only fire when someone is in danger a cops last resort is firing a weapon the had to have had a reason to do it.

you weren't there and therefore cannot attest to what occurred. Typically police do not get carried away.

Case in point is the old lady that was shot by the PD, but people just gloss over the fact they SHE was shooting at them FIRST!!!

Because they get away with it time and time again and nothing ever happens.

These cops are murderers...the only difference is they carry a badge so the killings are sanctioned.

Because the police protect their own. IF they can justify it by saying the person acted suspicious, so they had to shoot that is what they will do.
