EDIT> I just read the above answer, and it seems to make alot fo sense. So, in my answer just pretend I said 7th, and not 6th.

Basically, the "6th sense" is anything beyond the regular 5 (sight, touch, smell, sound, hearing). Most of time time it's some form of being psychic. Maybe you get a feeling something will happen, and then it does. Maybe you are asked a multiple choice quesition to which you do not readily know the answer and you still pick the right answer. Maybe you are just uncannily good at Rock-Paper-Scissors. Or, maybe you see dead people! :P

I have 6th sense moments all the time. Sometimes it can be attributed to other things, but the human mind is still a very mysterious thing. It's true limits are not fully understood, so it's entorely possible that humans can, on some level, have psychic abilities.

My own experiences include dreaming something and then it happens a few weeks later, sometimes knowing what people are about to say before they say it, and being uncannily good at Rock-Paper-Scissors.

(PS. My dream that came true wasn't anything spectacular. My dream was sitting at a large school-type desk in a park, with about 4 other people who I couldn't clearly see. I was looking for a garbage bag which should have been taped to the edge of the table, so I looked around at the other side, and it was there. I had to tell a fat girl to excuse me so I could access the bag.

About 2 months later, I was volunteering in a reading buddies program. That final big event was that our group would set up a crafts/game station in the town's biggest park by the lake to help with the big play day for all the town's varius day camps. Sure enough, our craft table had a garbage bag taped to the table, and it all happened just the way I dreamed. I didn't realize that it was a dream-turned-reality until a few days later.)

The sixth sense is located in our inner ear. There is a small organ there shaped something like a snail's shell. It's filled with a fluid containing tiny particles, and it's inner surface is covered with cilia. The motion of the fluid and particles is monitered by the cilia.

This organ, the sixth sense, measures the position of the head relative to a source of gravity or other similar force (such as centrifugal force). This is our sense of gravity, and when it's confused we get motion sickness. If it's damaged, we might lose the ability to walk straight or judge distances and motion correctly.

If you're thinking along intuitive or psychic lines, that should be termed the seventh sense.

I think it's a trick that human mind does to make us feel better.
I believe that when there is some mysterious situation. The mind unconsciously scrolls down the long list of all possible outcomes of the situation, normal and weird possible outcomes, simply ALL.
Then when the outcome is revealed, it blinks in the long list as if I felt that this would happen.

The sixth sense is something besides hearing, smelling, seeing, tasting, or touching. Although your these five senses can be used to enhance your sixth sense. A sixth sense is a power of perception beyond the five senses; intuition.
