She needs to be informed without being offended somehow. She is very defensive and would probably be upset if I just came out and told her. Plus, we aren't close friends. Any tactful or super clever ideas?

Talk to your supervisor. If you're just a coworker, it's not your place to tell her those things. Hygiene is something a supervisor needs to discuss with employees.

Hello I am a manager of a small hotel and I had the same problem one of my housekeepers would have all horrible smells every day
Even that I am a manager it could be very offensive to say something directly ...and they are good workers and it is so difficult to deal with it
I sent a noticed to everybody indicating that we do appreciate good health and that is why the company it is requiring great presentation and also good hygiene ....that is why we are remaining all the staff about it .

You should buy her bath stuff or perfume for Christmas, and just set it on her desk anonymously. She doesn't have to know where it came from.
