I sprained my ankle about a month ago and have been using the Aircast brace the doctor gave me to support my ankle during basketball. But everyone is telling me to get a lace up brace because they are better.

Lace up braces are fine and economical. But if you are playing organized basketball I would choose the taping route. Taping provides a custom fit brace/support that is extremely functional. Be sure to get someone to tape you that knows what they are doing, preferably a certified athletic trainer.

The air ones are generally better. Although they seem less secure they put more pressure on the injury. Lace up ones tend to loosen through out the day and are hard to readjust (you have to tighten them from the bottom up and basically lace them again). The velcro you just readjust quickly and go on your day.

The doctor gave you that brace for a reason.
