i dont know how to fix it, since the screen is too dark to access anything to do test or run programs or anything?? please help!!

Tilt the screen or try putting it somewhere else in the room. The lighting makes a difference on the LED screens. Hope this helps.

Sounds like a hardware problem. Does the screen light up at all in a pitch-black room? If not, then your LCD screen (or possibly the switch that turns it off/on when you open/close it like katarina2727 said) is broken.

i had this problem on my ibm thinkpad and it was the button when you close the lid that puts it into standby was stuck. if that's not it you can plug a monitor into your laptop so you can see what is on the screen to further diagnose the problem.

yeah this happens to me too, and i can't figure out why. if i touch the little button that shuts of the lights when you close the laptop it shuts off all the lights and refuses to turn them back on. so now i can never shut my laptop all the way if its on. ]=< sorry i couldn't help.

If it is a mac, I would just restart it and all should be well. If it's a pc... good luck.
