I had write a very looong paper on beauty when I took aesthetics in university, i wish i had it now! :) ok, after reading a lot of texts from extremely different points of views, my decision is:
Beauty is a feature of some objects which gives the observer a special pleasure which is defined differently by every human being. Because of wanting to achieve this special pleasure, you wanna look at a beautiful painting or listen to beautiful music etc. But since everyone has a different 'special pleasure' OR since everyone gets this pleasure from different objects (there is an interesting difference btw two)- ppl find beauty in different objects. Therefore the only consistent definition of beauty is this one, as far as I am concerned!

When I see beauty, it's almost always on the inside. Sometimes both, but rarely. It's in the personality, the way a person presents them self, their comedy, their openness, their expression. Most definitely, it's from the inside. The outside can have an influence, if the inside is good. But, I have never found a person to be beautiful on the outside only. My opinion only!

I hate to be trite but isn't beauty in the eye of the beholder? I mean, there is an African tribe where women are considered beautiful who have plates in their mouths or lips. In America, there is a love affair with large breasts. I am female; I would prefer to be slim with small breasts. Some women love the Tom Cruise type; I prefer the Hugh Laurie look.
I think we can all agree on what is NOT beautiful; fat, short people. Please.....no remarks as I'm short & fat.

Beauty is what you make it, everyone has a different opinion about beauty, everyone is entitled to that, like a quiet snowy night with the snow falling lightly infront of a street ligt kind of beauty, beauty is on the inside, you just have to feel good about yourself , self confidence is what its called

Beauty is that that draws our focus. It can be external or internal, depending on our personal depth.
I think an element of True Beauty is a kind of serenity.

as they say "beauty is in the eye of the beholder". They also say we are attracted to people who are like us. I think we are attracted to soul mates, and to those with inner beauty and people who create harmony or at least who we think would create harmony in our lives. We were made to attract the opposite sex for procreation purposes so that may be considered beauty.
