Only two cricketers are known to have died as a result of on-field injuries in a first-class fixture. Both were hit while batting: George Summers of Nottinghamshire on the head at Lord's in 1870; and Abdul Aziz, the Karachi wicket-keeper, over the heart in the 1958-59 Quaid-e-Azam final.

Raman Lamba died in a Dhaka hospital, aged 38. Three days earlier he had been hit on the temple while fielding, without a helmet, at short leg in front of a substantial crowd at a big club match at the Bangabandhu Stadium. Lamba walked off the field and the injury appeared not to be serious, but he suffered an internal haemorrhage and his condition worsened dramatically. A neurosurgeon was flown in from Delhi but it was already too late.

The last first-class cricketer to die after being hit in any match was Ian Folley of Lancashire, playing for Whitehaven in 1993.

Mr. Raman Lamba (former Indian test player) died while on field playing in Bangladesh. It was not an International cricket match but definitely was a professional match. The most unfortunate part was that he died due to head injury sustained by ball hitting his unprotected head while he was fielding at Forward Short Leg.

Wasim Raja (retired Pakistani cricketer) died due to cardiac arrest a few months back in England while he was on field (playing)

Not aware of other cases.

I think you will find there have been quite a few around the world, playing club cricket. You really needed a qualifier as to what a Professional Cricketer is, one playing for money, first grade, state/county. international etc.

Chris Balderstone it was who ended his football career with Queen Of The South in Scotland. I think it was Carlisle he played with in the English First Division which was the top league, as you say.
