mp4 is a video player. it's MPEG-4 layer encoded file. mp4 files are more likely video files (i.e. .avi files).
mp3, as you know, is like .wma files.

A mp3 player is one that supports MP3 format.
A mp4 player is one that lets you play videos in the mp4 format.

MP4 is a video format, As far as im concerned all mp4 players are also mp3 players. for example. the ipod video, it plays MP3 audio and it also plays MP4 videos. all on the same device.
Same goes with the Sandisk Sansa e250, and the Creative Zen Vision.

the mp3 is for music only while mp4 are are for videos and music also.
