assuming that the girl is a steorotypical one, i guess gift vouchers/certificates to clothing stores etc. are the best way to go. technological devices such as mp3 players, ipods, the newly released zune etc mention above is also a good option if she doesnt have one. Yuo could try asking her her what she wants as well, unless you want it to be a surprise. if that is the case, do you know what she likes and her dislikes?
does she read alot? get her a book voucher, or a specific book/s if you know her favourite series/aithour
does she go on deviantart? if so, get her an image program like photoshop, paint shop pro etc. or a tablet.
do you know of her specific clothing styles or her clothing size? if so, as mentioned before get her a specific clothing that you know she wants.
does she pay special interest in overseas entertainment, like the Hong Kong or Japan entertainment industry? if you can, get her movies, anime, etc. from those countries.
well basically, if you know her interest, then finding the present should be easy.

DEFINITELY, assuming she is like everyone else : ), a 50 dollar gift certificate to Abercrombie. If you don't know her that well, maybe a 20 dollar to another store, Like nordstrom!

Instead of trying to think by yourself what to get her you should try and ask her. If you don't want to ask, cellphones, and as mentioned above, Ipods, are good choices. If you don't want to do that just give her cash and a few little inexpensive items to open.

It depends on what she likes and how much you want to spend! But, you can't really go wrong with an ipod nano - in red for christmas!!
