there are +/- points in hockey. what are these exactly. how do they get scored. i know that assists and goals are 1 point each. does that have anything to do with the +/- points?

goals scored by your team while you are on the ice is +1. a goal scored against your team while you are on the ice is -1. added up, that is your plus/minus ratio. its a measure of the players presence on the ice.

No one here has gone in depth enough to answer your question. There are differing rules for different situations.

You get a +1 if you are on the ice when your team scores at even strength (5 on 5, 4 on 4, 3 on 3) or is killing a penalty (4 on 5, 3 on 5, 3 on 4).

You get a -1 if you are on the ice when the other team scores at even strength, or if your team is on the powerplay (5 on 4, 5 on 3, 4 on 3)

Your +/- is not affected negatively if you are killing a penalty and the other team scores nor is it affected positively if your team scores on the powerplay.

When you or your team scores while you are on the ice, you get 1+, when the other team scores you get a 1-. None of these adds to your regular points, unless you have scored. If you have a 7+ to start the season and in one game a team scores twice while you are on the ice, than your entire season +/- becomes 5+.

No, the +/- don't relate to the players points. +/- is related to when your on the ice when a goal is scored. If you're on the ice when your team scores, your a +1. If your on the ice when the opposing team scores, your a -1. The better your + ratio is the better.

all above are correct. but plus/minus is an indicator of the whole team, really, not just the player.
