There are MANY music file conversion programs out there.
The BEST one I've come across is DBPoweramp

It has what are called codecs which are conversion codes from one specific type file to another.

Look it up here

www.dbpoweramp.com

some other are here.... JUST name a few... Google search music file converters

Okay this may sound extra stupid, but there goes. I had the same sort of problem trying to turn a wav file into a MP3 file. It was tricky but I did it (sort of).

I burned the wave file to a CD, then I took that CD out the computer, wiped it off, and put it back into the computer. I ripped that CD to my computer, but I made sure the files that were being ripped were being ripped at mp3 files not wav files, hope this helps.

Using iTunes, right? Go to the preferences menu. Click on the advanced tab, choose importing, then switch it from ACC To Mp3. Then, right click on the song you want to convert and choose convert selection to Mp3. If you're not using itunes, then your solution may be much more expensive.
