Probably from several viruses combining. Or viruses combining with Prions - even simpler forms of "life".
Prions are just proteins with infectious properties - some are responsible for diseases such as Mad Cow Disease, Kuru etc. And may represent the earliest forms or life on Earth, and need not have arrived from outer space, as suggested by others, they are simple enough to have formed from the "primordial soup" and nutrient rich warm tidal pools over millions of years.
Consider that animal and plant cells probably began as several different types of bacteria which then combined in a symbiotic relationnship. There doesn't seem to be any reason that, given a billion years or so, several simple proteins could not combine into something reprodicible.

What Robert said was possible. Bacteria can be an alien. But where did it come from. If it is an alien why didnt it come again. It should be near to earth if robert's theory is correct. So, why wont it come now.

I don't believe anyone completely understands the process, but the laws of thermodynamics seem to explain why the evolution occured.

Please,Iam being sincere.Is it a possibility that....BACTERIA.... is an alian form of life that has survived space travel because of its demenor& composition visiting earth and found a compatable place to live.Please think about it.
