I have 2 kids - 6 & 3 yrs old so maybe my info is out dated, but my doctor said sleeping on the tummy was a no-no b/c it would cut off nutrients and blood flow until you changed positions - for the same reason, sleeping on my back was out too - although she made it seem like sleeping on my back was far worse than on my tummy. She told me only on my side if I could help it.

As long as you are comfortable, it is ok. This is only if you have no other existing conditions such as preclampsia, etc. It puts pressure on major blood vessels and could cut blood loss to the baby. I was able to sleep on my tummy with both kids until I was about 7 months, after that I was stuck on my side.

Doctors recommend that after your first trimester that you begin to sleep on your sides so that later in your third trimester you will be used to having to sleep on your left or right side.

my doctor said if you know you're pregnant never sleep on your stomache cause it could harm the baby. it's harder for the baby to breath and move if you sleep on it.

As long as it's comfortable, but at some point it can actually make you short of breath and/or nauseous.
