I have reason to belive I've got depression. My parents, with my being 14 now ( 12 at the time ), gave me Zoloft not but a year and a half ago. The affects I had from this medication were drastic. My thougths of suicide increased greatly and my actions were anything but responsible with sharp objects. I stopped using it as soon as possible.
I met a person that I fell in love with, this did by no means solve my depression, but now that he and I are seperated I'm feeling the full affects of that once again. It hasn't been but three weeks since society ripped he and I apart, but my depression has increased. Sure, its fine to be sad, but this is crazy. Its been years now and the feeling has by no means gone away, and only now and I seeing the complete affects due to amouts of time available increasing.
I'm interested in finding a medication that would work. Although I'm not thrilled that I have come to this conclution, I need some kind of help.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

I will say that I've gone to two therapists. The first one diagnosed me with Depression along with my Pediatrition ( sp? ).
This current one has none of my trust. I was talking to her about the pain with parting from my boyfriend for a year and a half (( we're supposidly allowed to talk when I'm 16, though since we got caught talking and he told me he wasn't convinced it was a brilliant idea to contact me again, I've no clue whats going on and he refuses to talk to any of my friends that I've asked to contact him just breifly to clear things up )) and told her we still had contact, so she told my parents. I've asked for a new therapist, but my parents wont allow it. They're convinced they'll get good information out of her now.

The cause of my depression is genetic as well as a horrendouse ( sp? ) family life that has caused a stomach ulcer simply from the fights and pain involved with it falling apart so slowly that at times I wish it would end.

I am so sad to hear of someone so young experiencing these awful symptoms.
it is true that you are at the age where all sorts of issues will be happening, being a teen is not always great fun.
I have lived with deperession most of my life, although it's only in the last 10 years that I have used anti depressants. They are worthwhile, but you must understand that they merely make the unpleasant thoughts and feelings a little less intolerable, any real benefits in treating depression come from talking therapies.
The best person who could advise you about the right treatment for you would be medically trained. There is no right and wrong anti depressant, everyone reacts differently and what works well for one person can be disastrous for another. And even once you find something that works, you have to have the correct dosage and there's no-one here that can deal with that for you.
Is there a counsellor in school you could talk to privately? Sometimes talking about these dreadful thoughts can help enormously, having another person acknowledging how bad you feel is often enough to just help you get through the fog and look for other ways to deal with what's going on.
You can get through this, I promise you. I've been in that bad place and I know that having people tell you how you should be feeling really doesn't help when you don't know how to get to the place they're speaking from.
Take care of yourself

I'm sorry to hear you're going through so much. :(
If you and your parents decide that going back on an anti-depressant is necessary I would have the doctor look in to Prozac (generic is fluoxetine). This is the only one that is approved by the FDA for use in teens under 18. It also has fewer reports of the suicidal thoughts, however, it still is a side effect and if you start to see this again you need to go back and talk to your doc right away.
Also try to see if you can find another therapist. Unless you are threatening to harm yourself or others there is not a reason for the therapist to give your parents all that information. They should give them updates on your treatment, that's all.
I really hope things get better for you soon.
Hang in there kiddo, things are bound to look brighter soon.

Well first of all I'm sorry to hear that you are going through this. You're 14 years old, you shouldn't be thinking about depression, you should be out there having fun and living your life but I do understand how society is and how harsh the world can be. After I had my third child, I got diagnosed with severe depression and post-partum, I was in a bad place and to top it off I also have migraines daily. Anyways what my doctor prescribed me was welbutrin and that seems to work great. She started off with a small dosage and had me come in regularly (and also had me see someone) until we got on a good dosage, it works great! Don't get me wrong I still have some bad days but not NEARLY as much as I did before taking it, so hopefully you can talk to your doctor about using that, good luck!

To your Title: Everyone reacts differently to medicacines so you never know what's right until you try some.
To the start of your message: Umm,.. you shouldn't have been on Zoloft and if you were on medicacine as a child you may be suffering the side effects. These include permenant damage to organs the average person doesn't know exsist. This leads to a lack of chemical reactions, so when something threatens your life or is exciteing you get little or no proper responce. This leads to suicide because nothing in the brain clicks to stop that or more meds that dmaage more of your own bodies ablities but are a temp "fix". This leads to more things missing, and then more meds needed,.. and so on and so forth.
I suggest you take a long vacation from meds (permenant side effects not counted,.. I know some side effects take a year to surface and another to subside, they do love to medicate the side effects pretending this is normal for you), maybe get a more flexable school like a montasori school (maybe your a genius and most of the people around you are 25-50 points lower then you so noone is getting you). I also suggest you seek people with similar/common interest online, don't expect the first place you go online to click. Play some games that are mindless to you on places like Yahoo! Games to find out you really are better then you think but luck can change in a heart beat. Find people both smarter and dumber then you to talk to online for contrast. And both Role Play and Mindless Violent Game play some of that emotion. I found Role Play can be very helpful (I'm not talking about S&M but pretending to be anything, even a Kitten on a game where people create interactions through text), have In Character and Out Of Character... chatter Out OF Character when your confused about others replies... find out how other's minds work. If you get retards that do one thing or insist on one thing all the time, like killing every person on the planet every time you try to have your character interact or they start humping your leg going " I am forceing you into sex"... and out of Character they can't prove they aren't a moron,.. get the hell away from that person... look for other people.
I can suggest games if you figure out my e-mail (like that's hard) and remind me your contacting me from here. But if I say anything here my online stalkers might come whineing to me v.v;
ADDED: Zoloft makes is now known to make Children and Teens suicidal and posibly cause other threats to their health. I belive you can sue your doctors when you turn 16 or 18 for haveing you on Zoloft. Theorpist do not prescribe psyche meds and it is frowned down upon for Doctors (or worst yet Pediatricines) to prescribe psych meds. This all suggest they are money hungry and hopeing to cause problems,.. even if you did have problems to begin with that needed to be worked out. It is actually normal for people before Middle /JuniorHigh School, during Middle / JuniorHigh School, and just after Middle/JuniorHigh School to not appear mentally sound,.. to be depressed, violent, have major Mood Swings,.. it's part of Adolesense,.. it's absolutely no fun,.. but I figured out everyone was messed up so I would just literlly step back against a wall and observe my peers,.. they would do things like beat on each other,.. rip apart possessions,.. and injure the school staff,... every day.. very common.

You should not have been on Zoloft because of the side effects for a girl your age.
It is normal to have the feelings you describe. Teen Agers go through all kinds of feelings. Try and talk with someone about your problems. I hope you can see a doctor.

I take a "once a day" drink that contains Taurine, which is an essential amino acid. It helps with cardiovascular disease, including high blood pressure. There are also other herbs included in this single serving such as maca root (boosts libido, sexual function, and overall energy) and green tea among others. This is an all around good drink that contains vitamins as well.
It also helps with mental clarity, physical performance, fatigue,. deppression and contains antioxidants.
If you e-mail me, I can get you information on how to get this product. It's very inexpensive as well.

The best medication for your situation is yourself. You are your on Best Doctor. MAny people suffer lots of "symptoms" due to stress as they claim. And so they seek professional help. But never did they notice that instead of taking drugs( Xanax, Zoloft and etc.) they can help themselves by changing their current lifestyle. It is easy for me to say, but believe me I've been through what situation you are in right now. I started to pick up meditation and learning the art of healing. I began listening to soft easy musics i.e. Kevin Kern's CDs. Meditation is the best, although in reality it is not easy to practise. I'm sure you can find lots of resources from the net. Try the buddhism cause they are masters of mediation. I wish I could guide you but now I am tight down with my business proposal. I will save your nickname in case when I'm free, I could go in details and share my knowledge with you. I give you unconditional love. Always remember, the power of NOW. Most people's brain would only think of previous and future but never thought of now. So, one advise, don't think, relax and think of now. Become aware of yourself at present. BEcome aware that you are breathing God's love...or rather oxygen. BEcome aware of noises...sensations to the body. Spend at least 20 minutes a day, sit straight and close ur eyes and just become aware of present. Mail me anytime u want, I'll help. Love & Lights.
