Most atheists I know do celebrate Christmas which I think is pretty hypocritical. At least call it something else.

Most atheists I know DO celebrate christmas. Not the birth of Christ. However, for those of you who are saying that the kids wont feel left out because it isnt part of the beliefs they are taught by their parents...that just is not true. I was raised as a Christian who did NOT celebrate Christmas. Yes, my siblings and I did feel left out when everyone else got gifts and were off at Christmas parties while we were at home being "proud of the fact that we were not celebrating pagan holidays". I am still a Christian but we do celebrate Christmas. The Bible clearly says that it does no good nor harm to to it. And the bottom line is that everyone has to answer for their own actions in the end. Being judgemental of other people is as big of a sin as celebrating a pagan holiday. Do your research.

Most atheists DO celebrate Christmas - as a secular holiday, with gifts, trees, family and all the rest. It's just the manger scenes that get left out, and frankly the kid's classmates aren't going to care if they went to Christmas Mass or whatever.

Okay, from experience, yes... Atheists do give their children gifts, to celebrate christmas. Not the birth of Jesus. And I also know their children aren't going to cry if their parents didn't get them anything for the holiday they don't even celebrate. Obviously their parents would teach them differently, so they wouldn't feel like they're missing out on anything.

Its not a matter of being hypocritical or not... its the simple fact that we are all in some small part materialistic, and we like giving people, and ourselves, gifts under diferent pretenses.

lol tears wont come to his eyes.........thats like saying a jew or muslim will feel left out when a christian asks them what they did for xmas.......they wont feel anything because its not part of their culture of belief system.......theres more people in the world that do other cultures and celebrations other than christianity

i gotta say im christian myself but for 1 i feel that xmas doesnt mean anything anymore.......every damn holiday is commercialised beyond belief and doesnt mean anything anymore.....if big corporations didnt make profits on holidays then maybe it would be better but all these holidays are ridiculously sold out........especially christmas

my second point is that i feel i think its stupid that ppl feel the need to be nice this time of year.......theres nothing wrong with being nice this time of year and i like it and its all nice and a warm atmostphere but its still a bunch of bull........seriously why cant ppl be nice all year round.....and then your worst ennemies acting all nice all of a sudden like give me a break...

i know i went on a tangent and i answered your question at the begining but added some other detail that you probably dont care about but really think about what the true meaning of xmas is.........not being nice now.......being a good person all the time

Xmas is a secular holiday to alot of people. I decorate my house with greens and lights but the religious aspect is left out. It's just a time for friends and family and giving.

To clear the air here...Xmas is NOT a pagan holiday. Xmas was placed in December to overshadow the pagan celebrations and to try to attract pagans to chritianity. In essence, the day was stolen along with the custom of decorating.
