And - have you ever actually traveled through the United States and met this stereotype, or are you basing your opinion on the representations presented by the media?

How do you think that Americans view your nationality?

Hey - so far only one idiot! I think he's probably not well endowed, but there I go...stereotyping. Bad me. What a cranky man.

I look forward to more answers.

I have never been to u.s, but the people I have met (from various areas), were very nice, and I found them to be good people, just like you can find anywhere in the world. I think all places, have their traits... But, I also think that, representations in the media seem to make american people look openly shallow, and arrogant at times. But, I also think that it is because America is a big place, so of course there is more to prove to the rest of the world. I think this is a natural reaction. But ultimately, I do not like to think of anybody in this manner, because I think that is why we have so many problems in the world in the first place!!

Americans at home are polite and pleasant but not particularly open to people they do not know. They are very limited in their knowledge of what is really happening in the world.
Americans abroad often project an awful impression of the country as many are loud, arrogant and overbearing.

On the whole they consider America to be superior to other nations. There is no stereotype. States and communities vary.Like in every nation there is good and bad.

After the second world war, Europe really took America to its heart, but so many bad things have happened since that the halo is somewhat tarnished.

before everything, as an American, i'm able to in all probability assist you to with the stereotype that maximum have related to individuals. Kinda like pond scum. Secondly, I had no concept that Christmas substitute into an American custom. ultimately, I even have my doubts approximately no count in case you're particularly an American. in all probability a troll who thinks it somewhat is all humorous. i'm American, I stay in us of a of america, and that i've got by no ability met a single American that thinks like that.

I'm not American but have been there several times.
With my job I am in regular contact with them.
For me they are generally overweight with big mouths but in general they are very polite and friendly especially considering the fact that I am Irish.
I don't like to be rude but I believe this is the general view that people have of Americans.

As a Canadian who has travelled extensively in the US there is no stereotypical anyone. Stereotypes are created either out of ignorance or malice. Again as a Canadian, I feel that most other nations don't think of us at all..I like that, out of sight, out of mind.

Oh...bollocks! These bleeding Yanks! Yes, I've traveled from New York to L.A. and met nothing but slack-jawed yokels, undereducated Klan wannabes and other assorted pond scum...but the worst...the absolute WORST are in the South! There, they see Fundamentalist Christianity as a political party and many in the Far Right Wing take their money and promise them god-knows-what-all!

How do Americans other nationalities? You need to know that Yanks don't know ****-all about anyone but themselves, and even THAT is bloody thin! The Southerners think the Northerners are all Commies and the Northerners think the Southerners are inbred, illiterate lynch-mob members (hmm...there IS some truth in that, at least).

Then there are the coasts! The middle of the country think they're all ultra-Liberal, homosexual militants who (by some bizarre twist of illogic) control the media (in their minds). It's funny, I tell you! Ever met a Portuguese-American fisherman from New Bedford, bloody liberal, Massachusetts? HE'd tell you it's not so...if he could speak English!

And ALL of them think that every other country in the WORLD is just waiting for the Yank army to come liberate them...from...whatever it is the White House Press Corps has dreamed up on any given week.

Well...that's all on America for now. Some scum-sucking Yank named Otto killed all my fish, after robbing a bank! Now I have to go to the good old C of E and beg for forgiveness.

Know your rights! All 2 of 'em!

I haven't got a clue as to the first question's reply. Since you begged for an answer I will try to answer. Hint: George Bush(words fail me so I can't elaborate)
Travelled to the U S of A? No thanks, I'll pass. Thanks to CNN I'll stick to this side of the pond.
Americans don't have a view of my nationality coz they don't know me.
Happy Holidays

I'm a non-American living in the states and here's the truth (as seen from my experience). American's are, for the most part, cultured, intelligent, idealistic a bit, etc. That is, except for the middle bit. Somewhere around Oklahoma, Nebraska, Texas and so on... it gets a bit scary.

These people are single-mindedly anti-gay, pro-guns, rascist, cruel and hateful.
