Euphoria.
Feelings of elation, high, with your spirits feeling gay with delight. Sometimes the happiness is just a state inside you. You can achieve it if you try. How? Make a plan for you life. As you go through life living the plan you will attain happiness.
If you dont have goals and a plan and just try to wing it, you may have periods of hapiness but not total hapiness.
Write down your plan. What do you want to achieve in your lifetime and why. List them in small attainable goals in the order of how you can accomplish them. Such as:
good grades in school
the college of my dreams/apply
the best job is something I love ______.
find my perfect mate
take up a rewarding hobby
ways I will share my talents, help others.
trips I will take
learning that will enrich my life
And so on. They start taking the steps even small ones to attain your list of goals. As you do so you move closer to happiness.
Did you know most happy people help others? It brings them great joy.

Contentment would be working toward the higher level of your unique function which, for a human being, would be the development of rational behaviors within the immediate confines of your changing environment to meet your physical, emotional and spiritual needs, as you value them. Once you have maintained a consistent level of contentment, it will be easier to recognize, participate in and enjoy moments of happiness which are transient in nature and usually not within an individuals control.

it's a state of mind, not a state of posessions. you can't chase contentment and obtain it. chasing only confirms that you are far from it. ''we weep not because we are sorrowful, rather, we are sorrowful because we weep.'' -William James, early psychologist. in order to achieve contentment, one must create it.
it can be as simple as smiling more. a smile sends a suggestion to your subconscious mind to find a reason to be happy. the more suggestions of this nature, the better, since your subconscious relies on your conscious mind to ''do the thinking.''
and also, not to thump the bible at you or anything, but you might benefit from reading the book of Ecclesiastes. the author was actually searching out the purpose of life.

the word happiness is a relative term and one can give the meaning of that word by browsing the dictionaries but it is not a correct meaning as per psychologists.but people who have positive outlook ,and don't get anxiety, and who don't loose mental balance, even though they are provOKed and don't worry about trivial issues. and people who get sound sleep can be branded as the happiest persons.to get positive happiness, one should help others when they are in need of you, and not indulging in unnecessary arguments.we can make others happy by solving their problems.the happiness a mother gets when her child started talking and walking can not be compared with the happiness of a business man who got millions of$ in his business.if one develops the attitude "all is well with the world" and reaches the stage of "i am ok you are ok and we are ok." one will be the happiest person.wake up in the early morning and watch the rising of the sun, dew drops on grass, listen to the songs of unknown birds, you will feel happy.

According to Buddhism, happiness is a state of mind that is positive, calm, and clear. It is also refered to as inner peace. Enlightenment is the state of unceasing happiness. Such happiness is also refered to as a bliss, a more powerful feeling of happiness than we are used to.
