Who really made the 1st flag.?

Why are kids taught in school Betsy Ross made the first flag, and Christopher Columbus discovered America? Both are wrong. Do you know who did?

If I remember correctly, Betsy Ross did sew the first flag together, per the request of Geo. Washington. Check her Web site. For Christopher Columbus, I think he is still making films out in California, but not directing (as in The Goonies or Mrs. Doubtfire).
