I'll answer it like this. A man once came up to me and asked me for money for food so I told him I would take him to a subway nearby and by him lunch. He turned it down and then told me his real reason for the money, he was out of cigarettes. The truly decent homeless people aren't as willing to go up to people and ask for money. What I would do is find out the address to the local food pantry or homeless shelter and keep it on you. Then when they ask for money, give them that address and let them do with it what they will.

I would say yes. Once I saw a guy with a sign that said "will work for money and or food." I was headed to the store so I bought him some food, crackers, bread, cheeses and a couple of waters. I went up to him and gave him the sack. He looked at me and said," I don't want any food just money."

I assume that they'll spend it on booze or drugs that's why I just ignore them, If you really want to help them don't give them money give some charity money.

when you assume, you make an ***-out of you and me, but here's a little trick I've learned since I work in convience stores:those that work corners close to convience stores are more likely (but not always) to spend it on alchohol. I usually don't give money anyway, but I will give food. I even once gave a woman a jacket of mine.

when i lived in Tennessee, there was an old homeless man. he was a drunk. he asked me for some money once, he said he was hungry. i gave him $10.00, he went to the Krystal's to get something to eat. after that when i saw him i would just get him some food, he was thankful. he had friends at the bar that gave him free drinks or he would sing with the band to get his drinks. i feel for the homeless.

Actually, no, my deed is in giving him money, what he does with it is on him - assumption never enters my mind whether he will use it for good or not. Once my deed is passed forward, from my hand to his, responsibility is then placed on him.
Be blessed, and great question.

When I give someone money, I hope they will buy themselves food, or something they need.
I don't assume anything.
