I like The Fifth Element a lot, but I saw a website listing the worst movies of all time and it was near the top. I bought it and I've watched it at least 10 times, and I think it gets better the more I watch it. What's your opinion?

I think it just didn't live up to it's Hype. I mean when it first came out they were saying it was gonna be the new Star Wars.
It was an ok movie in my opinion, but I think nobody really took it seriously as it was more of a comedy/action than a strictly action/phantasy.

First, three words:

Milla
Jovovich
Bandages

I could go on forever, but apart from being SUPER HOT, Milla Jovovich also delivered convincing portrayals of the full range of human emotion, omitting hatred. She was lonely, she was desperate, she was powerful, she was innocent, she was patient, she was kind, and she was every emotion you can name, EXCEPT HATE.

The thesis was great: "Love is all you need / It's Love that holds it all together / If I have Faith to move mountains, but have not Love, my faith is likened to a tinkling bell..."

And the nemesis is a giant ball of HATE that only grows stronger the more violent force you throw at it.

A lot of elements were employed (i think intentionally) to make it look more like a theatrical performance than a cinematic performance, and vice versa: echoes of "2001..." and "Bladerunner."

I also liked small techinical elements like "people still smoke, but the cigarette is about 85% filter."

The ways in which sound was manipulated was between crude and state of the art: Crude being the gameshow host's handheld apparatus, and State of the Art being making someone's (The Diva) voice do the impossible. I know the editors and sound designers will think just the opposite, but I think of the effect that is promoted by sound design and editing: the gameshow host/dj has crude effects and The Diva has pristine and complete control of her voice(s). GREAT WORK, on both parts!

The best thing is that The Fifth Element is accessible to people of many different belief systems.

I pretty much like it too.
Its a loud, visually stunning and consistently cluttered sci-fi adventure that somehow manages to be both - a treat and a pain the same time.
Writer-director Luc Besson puts so much effort into bringing his imagining of a Gaultier-clad future to life, that somehow somewhere along the line he forgets to pay any attention to his story.
Packed to the gunnels with eye popping colours and special effects, its the sort of film I could watch time and time again and still see something new every time.
I guess thats also the reason you been seeing it so many times :)

The Fifth Element is one of the best movies of all time!!! I love that movie. I watch it everytime it comes on TV. And, it is still good, even when there are commercials, and edited.

First, I love Sci-Fi.

The Fifth Element was one of the WORST movies I have ever seen. It made Rambo look intelligent.

My family and I think its a great movie. I have learned to ignore what the critics say. Most of the time if a critic says the movie is no good, we run right out to see it just to prove them wrong.

I am a huge Sci-Fi fan,
Its crap, I wanted to put my foot through the T.V.
There are so many better films, I would almost rate Cyborg which made me want to throw up in the same category

I think that depends on whether or not you're a sci-fi fan. I, myself, am. So, I did like the movie. I thought it was done interestingly. And who cares what critics think! They don't even like themselves, let alone any movie they review. If YOU like it, that's all that matters!

I do like it a lot, and I have to agree with you, it gets better the more you watch. I think it gets funnier every time I watch, and who doesn't love Lilu?
