I live in Canada, so my Thanksgiving was a month ago, but my friend's brother was in NYC and went shopping there. He got stuck in traffic for three hours to go three blocks and buy a box of tampons for his girlfriend. He didn't want to walk because he was afraid he'd get lost, lol.

Back in 1998, when my son was 2, a neighbor & I went to Target to stand in line for a chance to get a winning Hot Wheel car that had a winning sticker on it. If you got the sticker, you won a $500 shopping spree. Neither of us got the sticker but my son got 2 free Hot Wheels. We stood in line for almost 2 hours, too. Target had advertised opening at 6am, but never opened until their regular 8am time. That's also the year he got Blues Clues & I only paid $5 for it. The lady who won the shopping spree threw a fit because she couldn't use the giftcard that same day on her purchases. The manager finally let her just to shut her up & restore a bit of calm to the chaos going on around us. I asked the manager about the later opening time & was told that it was none of my business. We left right after that & I haven't shopped at that Target since. I make a trip to a different one in another city about 20 minutes away, while this store is less than 5 minutes away.
I didn't go day after shopping this year. None of the ads had anything I just had to have. My mom did go to Target for a few games for my son's Game Cube & got several for $10 & $15. I headed to Sears for 4 $20 comforters that were on ad to replace the old ones that are ruined.

One year, we woke up at 3:00 am, and went to KMart for the "big sale". We got there 20 minuyes BEFORE the store opened, only to find out that they had went ahead and opened even earlier than advertised. What we wanted was already sold out, even though they hadn't officially opened for the day.
We went home and went back to bed, and said never again.
