I don't understand why white girls are so obsessed with being thin. Curvy bodies and big butts are in now. As a black woman I was blessed with a hips and curves and I think that every woman should embrace their size. What's the big deal? They act like if they go past 100 pounds that they are too fat. I've even caught an occasional white boy staring at my *** before.

I'm not obsessed with being thin because I am thin and always have been, that's how I naturally am. And guess what? I embrace my size, my size 5/6UK (3/4us) and my 115 pounds. As far as I'm concerned I'm fine the way I am. I don't think I'm particularly curvy, even though I have the perfect waist-hip ratio (0.7), but I do have a round, firm, full and proportional butt and big breasts. Sure, I'd like to be 5'10'' instead of 5'7'' and have broader shoulders but I don't obsess over that and weight/size wise I definitely don't have a problem.
Where I live I'm considered thin, not the skinny-thin type, more like the hot-thin type (I know I sound conceited but it's the truth), but from what I've seen, in countries such as the US and the UK I'd be thought of as very thin. The British living here usually tell other British, who are thinking of coming to live here, to bring years worth of clothes because it's very hard to find clothes here that'll fit them. Apparently, we're all very "nice and slim", even though this is a country where 2 million people are overweight and 3 million are obese (whole population = 10 million). It makes me wonder just how fat the British are!
Anyway, what I mean to explain by telling you all this is that I've always been thin, always been around relatively thin people and live in a country where being thin is what's considered attractive (and has been for decades). We might be influenced by the media but we're much more influenced by our own culture and environment.
Another important thing is the health factor. For instance, in the US about 70% of black women are overweight (about 40% are obese) which means the size, that both black men and women supposedly admire, is a health hazard (there's a 57% chance an overweight person will die because of it, 89% if it's an obese person). It might be pretty but it's also an excess. In a world where obesity was considered the epidemic of the 20th century people should worry about their weight!

Now, leaving health, background and statistics behind I don't understand why black girls and guys (not all) are so obsessed with big butts. I mean, I know there are men who find a butt like this attractive: http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/5084/woskirtkq8.jpg but I personally can't see why. It's no so much because it's big but because it's too big for her body. That butt is completely out of proportion with the rest of the body and that's why I find it completely unattractive (I mean no offense, it's just my opinion).

Another thing I want to add is that it isn't everywhere that black men like big women and that black women are (and like being) big. Every single black woman I see on the streets here is thin, thinner than most white women, they're completely different from the whole Beyonce stereotype and (many) black men here certainly like thin girls, I can guarantee you that.

I dont know if "Big butts" are in.....
Its not 100 Ibs. I think most girls want to be looked at as being attractive...and most people find that a woman who is thin is attractive. Im not saying I agree with this...but it is true.
Embracing your body is a positive thing.

p.s.
I would not classify this obsessive idea as a "black and white thing" because it is not.

That's a broad statement. I know plenty of skinny black girls. I know plenty of curvy white girls. You need to meet more people before making such judgements. People come in every shape and size. But, you should look to Hollywood if you can't figure out why so many women are trying to stay thin.

dont generalize what white girls want to be thin because im sure there are LOTS of girls who want to be thin, not just "white" girls. what do you mean by white girls anyway? just like black people dont want to be generalized by being called black, you shouldnt do the same thing with white people
i agree with you, everyone should just embrace their body and not try to change it to this unhealthy figure--sometimes it is just disgusting. If you want to get thinner to be healthy, then that is a good goal, but just to look thin doesnt cut it. if you want to be thin, try the right way to go about it, not starving yourself, you know?
i think that anyone at 100 pounds is just not possible, if you are constnatly growing you will gain weight and you just cant control it

Ok, you're fat and white girls are skinny. So what's the deal? Everyone can be obsessed and want whatever they want.

not all white girls r....yr just sterotyping. plus ik PLENTY of black girls who r really obsessed w/ being thin. yr kinda mean 2 b sayin stuff like this tho, because it is quite affensive, i'm white and not obsessed w/ being skinny, no i'm no extremely fat but i don't want 2 look like a shriveled up nothing! its good that yr happy w/ yr body, thats great. but maybe instead of criticising how others feel about their bodys, try 2 help them out and not sterotype as much please.
