Ok, I work for a hotel as the Assistant General Manager now. I went to college and got a bachelor degree in hotel management. I was recently promoted to this position, without a raise! I only make a dollar more an hour than one of the FRONT DESK CLERKS!!! How sad is that! Should I go and look for another job, or should I stick it out and ask for more money! The plan is that I will be getting my own hotel to manage within a year and a half, but I dont know if I want to wait that long..............and by the way, I know I am worth WAY more than what I am making!!! Any suggestions on what I could say to my manager to let him know how I am feeling, or suggestions on what to do would be great!!!!!!!

wow obviously you are a sharp girl, but you have been misled. i was for years. if you truly believe there's a lot of money in jobs at hotels, you might want to find out exactly how much each position pays. not by asking the person there in the position, but in another way. try to apply in other hotel positions for all the positions you think you are going to move up to and see how much they pay. you can look online and even call around the country. try here in hawaii.

after you find out, re-evaluate if that is where you want to spend your precious and valuable time. once your time is gone it is gone forever. there is prestige and security if you are willing to play the games in having a job. but remember, owners can change hands and management can release you at any time. read rich dad poor dad and see if you are preparing for your retirement or just putting in time.

jobs never pay us what we are worth. they only pay us what we can be replaced for. the only way to acquire our true value is to take ownership of our lives and our finances. when we put equity in ourselves and use jobs as a stepping stone for our own businesses, then we can earn our worth. it is not as hard as you think.

if you still want to further your career in resorts/hotels, why not put that degree to use and advertize yourself all over the country and receive all kinds of offers. most are hungry for new hands. once you have your offers in your hands, and after you have done better at your position than anyone else, ask for your raise, if they don't appreciate you find someone who does, and move.

You should ask for a raise now because when you finally do get promoted and have your own hotel they will look at what you are currently making and base your increase on that. Unfortunately, companies pay people coming in from the outside more money than they do people that are promoted from within. They need a hook to get them in, but you are already there. When you ask for your raise, explain why you deserve it...do not mention that you are only making $1 more per hour than one of the Front Desk clerks. Hope this helps!

That totally stinks. I bet you are great at what you do and wouldn't it be nice to be paid what you are worth. However Congratulations on the Promotion! It will look great on your resume. Stick it out for a bit. Let your manager know that you are apprecitive to have the opportunity to work under and learn from him. And that you would like to know what is needed to increase your salary commisurate with your new position. Ask if there is any leg room to grow in that salary range?

Also if you are at all interested in adding to your current income. I have a great opportunity. I was in corp americal for about 12 years. I know work from home and really find it quite rewarding! I can tell you must be great with people and you must have a strong work ethic and leadership talent, that and a heart to help people. Those are precicely what you would need to be sucessful with us. Here is a link to learn just a little more. Shoot me an email if you are interested to hear more. There is nothing to lose. www.chooseagreatlife.net/sf643 .

Best of luck with your manager.

Ps This experience will make you that much of a better Hotel Manager when your time is at hand.

Again handle this with humility and grace. Oh yes and confidence.

Really, there are 2 ways you can look at your situation... The way I recommend, is positive. Since you're already looking into managing your own hotel, it looks good with the title, even though you are shafted with more responsibility, and barely an increase in $. If you move around before that opportunity comes up, it could look bad on your resume, to future employers, as well as lending institutions which would otherwise help you to obtain your own hotel, unless you're independently wealthy, in which case, why the hell would you take that????

Good luck!

Just be honest and sincere with him, and put it in his lap, if he doesn't do anything about then I would look for another job.
