I am in education as well and I know it is not for the money. While I believe that teachers should be paid more I also realize that if teaching were a high paying profession people would go into teaching for the money and not because they felt a calling to teach. I take all the extra duties I can, coaching, tutoring, ticket taking at ball games, student council sponsor, and work a part time job. Continue taking classes so you can move over on the pay scale. I am happy every day to go to my job, which is why I stay put. If you don't look forward to going to work every day then maybe it is time to switch.

Take a look at your contract. What's the salary scale like a few years down the line? Usually, at entry level, the pay isn't very generous, but if you stick it out for a few years, upgrade your qualifications (and you're lucky that you can do this at summer school) put in for department head, etc. you can be in the sweet end of the pay scale before too long.
If you try to jump into another career at this point, you'll be back at entry level and playing catch-up.
You might buy the odd lottery ticket ;-)

Talk to all those around you that are close.Take in their opinions on what you should or should not do in regards to increasing your salary and start to narrow down the selections. If you don't find any certain jobs to be interesting don't go forward with them, instead expand your areas of interest in the teaching department, since it is clear that you enjoy your current job....From becoming a national delegate to becoming a schools superintendent, use your great ability to convey information towards others to your advantage and you will get the job that you desire.Allot of effort and a little time is all it takes.Good luck with your search....Tom Science 4

if the only issue is income, take on some tutoring or after school paying activities. Could get a military commission with the right degree, could go back for a masters and teach at higher levels.

My wife is a teacher and she too had the same dilemma. She went back to school and received her masters, now she teaches training seminars to teachers and makes better pay doing what she loves. For extra cash also you could do paid tutoring

i think if you can stay with it you will not regret it. i know a police lt. that was a shoe-in definitely next in line for chief left the police became a history teacher. although both jobs offer satisfaction, he felt he could impart a greater positive change through teaching i agree. the retirement package in teaching is great too. if you could connect with another single teacher then your financial problems should lessen. if you stay with it for awhile and work for the right place, you will have job security and they will just about throw the bankroll at you. you job is a professional one i would stay with it.
