I know what Japanese manga and anime is, but I need to talk about things that will get people's attention. Can you help?
What should I talk about that will help people be more interested and help them learn more about it?

Sailormoon! Sailormoon is the only thing I'd ever watch. Anime/Manga is pretty ridiculous and stupid. But Sailormoon is awesome, Chobits is pretty good too. ;p

Talk about how popular it's getting. The Borders near my home had to have several shelves installed in the manga section within the last year just because the popularity of it is growing so fast.
Remember the Pokemon and Yugioh fads? Those both came from anime.
Also, you could talk about the art styles influence on American cartoons. Look at a lot of cartoons today. Many of them are heavily modeled after it.
Explain why it's becoming so popular and why they should be interested.

Sex and violence always gets people's attention and manga and anime have plenty of both. You could talk about how in Japan many of these programs and stories are not marketed to or intended for children.
The mature people in your audience may be become interested because they are looking for adult stories. The immature people may become interested because they think they'll get a cheap thrill.

You can talk about where it started~^-^ the very first anime ever is Tetsuwan Atom(Astro Boy)~ and then you can talk about the influece of manga and anime to the japanese people, and the whole world~(cosplay, maid cafe, idols) and how it is getting more and more popular now. you can talk about the top anime people like and why. you can also talk about hentai manga/anime, because whatever you do, that is part of it all, so explain it to them.^-^ you can add trivia, why do anime have big eyes? it's because japanese have small eyes and find big eyes attractive, and that is why.^-^ and all other trivia. have fun with your speech!~

Umm... from my own experience on the subject... talk about the origins of it, the first time it came to america, how its grown in popularity, the different genres and styles, and the difference between manga and anime including some popular examples. But please, please don't talk about Yu Gi Oh, or Pokémon. They are the worst.
Some good examples are Fooly Cooly for a manga, and Evangelion for an anime. You could also talk about Astroboy as the first televised anime, and Akira as the first anime movie.
