Poetry is a method of narration in which words are often rhymed but not necessarily done. I
t is a way to express oneself using imagery and other literary tools.
It is the basis for most music and rap (which I codename Rhythm & Poetry).
Poetry is a method to show affection and emotion.
It can be twisted into whatever, whenever, wherever, to satisfy others, to woo the heart, to embrace the soul, and to quench the mind.

Poetry is basically words put to a rhythm.
Shakespeare used Iembic Pentameter in most of his works as an example.

I've been a poet for years and years, and I've really gotten alot out of it. A poem can be a memory caught in time, or an image of extreme beauty or disgust.

However, I've also come to realize that a poem is alot like a child... it's beautiful and profound to it's parent, but to everyone else it just seems whiny and unremarkable.

My advice is write, write, write... but only write poems for your own pleasure, or write them for someone specific as a gift, if they're into that sort of thing. But nobody ever got rich off of poetry, it's definately not a money maker.

It's just mental masturbation. Maybe that's a bit harsh, but it's ultimately true. A poem is whatever it needs to be to the person enjoying it...but most often that person is the person who wrote it.

Over and out.

Poetry can be anything you want it to be. Poetry is a message from the heart that can come in any form. It can come as rhythmic reading, it can come as music to.

Poetry is a spontaneous expression of emotions in beautiful words mostly in rhymes but not necessarily so. Poets are inspired and sensitive people most of whom do not get the recognition or compensation they deserve.

I am not a poet but love collecting beautiful poems by unknown poets.

I also keep a collection of greeting cards with beautiful poems in clear view files for sharing with my friends.

I have a feeling that most of the talented young poets do not know how to find a market for their poems. Without some exposure, you can't get anywhere in life. Promotion comes first, success later.

Yesterday, I chanced to discover a website and a gave my rating for beautiful poem which I am reproducing below;

Beauty Unseen

by Michael Anderson

How can I show you you're beautiful?
Can this question be answered?
How can I show you you're beautiful,
When all I can offer you is word?

Can I tell you that your eyes shine-
As the warmth of a Winter fire?
Your lips, soft petals of a rose,
All painted with desire?

Shimmering tresses of your hair,
The touch of silk freshly spun.
Your tears, like wet dew dripping-
In the heat of morning's sun.

Your skin, sultry like satin,
Your smile, a breeze in Spring.
Watching you walk across the room,
Like listening to angels sing.

How can I show you you're beautiful?
How can I paint a picture in your mind?
How can I show you what you are to me,
Knowing that you are blind?

it's art, it's you, it's me, It's the way we move, we think, we communicate, a thought expressed through a medium and interpretted in more ways that it was written....

Something like that.
