Yes, melee means hand-to-hand combat, with fists or a weapon of some sort (not magical.)

A melee is a mixed up, chaotic encounter, that includes many people. It could be fighting, struggling, clammering for one thing, as in at Christmas sales, or just opposing forces where all get involved.

Melee means close combat. Magic, & bows are not melee.
