They can't even award a Bachelor's degree and who do they think they are trying to boost their bank account by making students take unnecessary classes? There are a lot of public high schools that don't require foreign language.

It depends on the goal of the student. If the student plans to transfer to a 4 year college, or wants to obtain an Associates Degree, then, the college should require Foreign Language. In fact, probably at least 2 semesters of a language.

If English is not the language a student was born into, students can often have the Foreign Language requirement waived by showing proficiency in the language they spoke first. This can be done through the counseling office at the college.

If the student is pursuing a certificate program, it might not require a Foreign Language. Again, it depends on the certificate and what the student's employment goals are.

The community college "thinks" it is an institution that is preparing students for some kind of goal. If Foreign Language is part of that goal, they will require it.

I don;t know what state you're in.. but in NC ALL high schools require 2 years of a foreign language.. they can make you, it's just part of their standards. It's mainly for kids who want to transfer to a University... and it keeps people well rounded. Foreign languages are good for people. It should be required.

People that can't handle taking a foriegn language can't handle life. It makes the US look smart too.. we're 24th in education... I mean, CHINA knows more about US history than us.

A college education is different than a high school education. Studying a foreign language helps you to develop useful skills beyond just learning to speak or write that language. Who do you think you are trying to dictate what a college curriculum should include? If you do not like it, go to a different kind of college, like a professional school such as Devry or ITT Institute.

Degree requirements are set by the college but they are under the guidance of the state, the community college board, etc. High school requirements are also set by the individual state.
