Hi,
I read Narayanan's novels only swamy & friends, The Financial Expert. His novels are very jovial and the english is great. I came to know about him a recent sunday magazine from THE HINDU news paper, its amazing. He wrote the swamy and friends in the early 1920. he was praised by the BBC radio in 1950's. They wondered about his novel where no body knows english at that time. though he wrote the book in 1920 he can publish the book in 1938 only. Really superb man, I felt very happy while reading the swamy and friends and exclaimed the about one of the world's best author not only in India. For ur knowledge, till now his books are published in English Countries. Happy to share with u my thoughts. Bye

Vikram Seth is good 'A Suitable Boy' is the largest modern novel in English. 'Golden Gate' is a novel entirely in verse. He has written a lot of poems and a Libretto.
A. Roy has written only one novel 'The God Of Small Things'- She is more of an essayist now - two compilations of her essays are available - 'The Algebra Of Infinite Justice' and 'A Common Man's Guide To The Empire'

I have not read any Of Ruskin Bond's or R K Narayans books.

Its very important to know the background of an author, to understand and relate to his work

Ruskin Bond stays in the hill town of Mussoorie in Himalyas about 30 KMs from the town of Dehra Dun in North India. He is famos for writing for kids and on nature. Surprisingly he has also written a number of ghost stories, which became immensly popular and I personnaly found them to be the best in their class. His writings have an earthy feeling and take you to an imaginery world. Over all a great author.

R K Narayan grew up in Mysore in south India and has vividly described the cultural and social scenario of this part of the country in his writings. However he had always been accused of writing for the western readers. One of his most popular work id the novel 'GUIDE' which was adopted for screen and turned into a successful movie by DEV ANAND. 'Malgudi Days' had been a popular TV series in India based on his writings. His younger brother R K Laksman a cartoonist of international repute has drawn caricatures for this series.

Arundhati Roy is a rebilion through n through. A very pretty woman, she always seem to be on loggerheads with the govt whether it is on the issue of construction of a dam or India going nuclear. She has written only one novel 'THE GOD OF SMALL THINGS' but this is a masterpiece. She suddenly bacame popular when she won Booker Award fpr this book.

Vikram Seth is an Indian who has studied in China and America and thinks like a Briton. He is in the habit of writing books which are so volumenous that they can be used as heavy duty paper weights. He gets huge royalties for his books. These books sell in great numbers but I have my doubts whether anyone has ever read through any of his books completly. Although there is one exception to this rule, his book describing his journy by road and on foot from China to India through Tibbet and Nepal . I think it is called travails through Tibbet. He recently confessed to being Gay. A sure sign of being an intellactual in India.

India is not any way much less!! Peace loving united states..lots of innovations and there is quite some scope to enhance right here!! All are taken care of the two...thank you for each and all the informations shared, makes my head severe as in INDIAN...Pls do not provide thumbs down in basic terms coz we are praising our united states...in case you do not choose to study then in basic terms give up!! EAST OR WEST INDIA IS the final!! Sanskrit is the main perfect language for pc programming!! Cool....
