I am close to purchasing a 2004 Chevy Silverado. It does not currently have a bed liner. I would do only light hauling for the most part. Occasionally I will haul brush and that type of thing. What would be the smartest, cheapest, and best bed liner? Spray on? Plastic? What is the best brand? Help?

There's no doubt that a spray in liner is far better. I would recommend Line-X, and don't cheap out. Go over the rails too.

When I buy a truck, I drive it from the dealership to the Line-X shop. You'll never regret it. Lifetime guarantee. Smartest, yes. Best, yes. Cheapest? Probably not.

My current Dodge Dakota Quad cab cost $550. It took about an hour to get my truck back and I was on my way. They even offered transportation around town while they worked on it.

My son dropped a recliner chair on my box rail, and it peeled a piece off about the size of my small finger nail. Line-x repaired it free of charge next day. You can't even tell it was damaged. I haul lumber, firewood, a quad, you name it. I dont' even have to worry. If it gets ugly and stained, spray a degreaser on and 10 minutes with a wand wash has it like new.

You spent $30,000+ for a truck and you want to be cheap and not spend $500.00 for a bed liner. The do it yourself sprays and roll ons DO NOT hold up as well as Line X which is the best I have experienced . If you do it yourself you will end up with a mess over a period of time. Because you will spend $100 to $150 to do a roll on and then you get to do it again in a few years. Because it will wear off uneven and discolor. Save a few bucks now and you will spend it in the end..............md

I live in a high wind area and see cheap truck bed liners along the roadways all th time. So I would suggest the spray on if you feel you really need a liner.

There is a DIY kit available at auto parts stores. But you roll it on instead of spray, still gives a pretty good surface for about $50.
