The Megadrive and Genesis are the same thing, but the Megadrive was released in the eastern hemisphere while America was the only country with the Genesis name. The Genesis was regionally protected, meaning that games purchased in Japan could not be played on an American Genesis. I'm guessing that these games wouldn't work because of the regional protection.

i've heard that they do. i've got a genisis, and a cartridge said
FOR SEGA GENISIS AND MEGADRIVE CONSOLES
i've never seen a megadrive console.
but when i wanna go old school i ditch the 360 and pull out my genesis,
