it's kinda a tie between the CEO (Cheif Excutive Officer) and the President/Chairperson. It can be an Owner but most of the time the company is spilt up between many people through stocks, hence the owner is a bunch of people, not a person.

It depends on what type of business it is. If the business was formed as a corporation, then the highest ranking person would be the shareholder with the greatest percentage of shares outstanding. If it was a partnership, then it would be the partner with the greatest share in the business. In the case of a sole proprietorship, then it would be the owner.

The executives of a corporation are employees of the firm and work on behalf of the shareholders. If by "highest ranking" you were referring to employees, than the CEO is more often than not the highest ranking employee of a corporation. While partnerships or sole proprietorships are usually run by the owners.

I think you're just looking for Chief Executive Officer (CEO), which ranks higher than president, and is the highest ranking person who deals with the day-to-day stuff.

The largest shareholder(s) often wield a great degree of power as does the Chairman of the Board of Directors (who only helps the broader course of the business and does not deal with the company daily). The founder/owner, is s/he is not the Chairman or CEO, is also a force to be reckoned with. Owners/founders often serve as presidents.

The Owner is ultimately the highest person in the food chain. If you are looking for the next person below him.....depending on the type of business it can be as simple as Manager or Chief Executive Officer, or even just Chairman of the Board.

That would be the CEO, which stands for Chief Executive Officer. Everyone answers to him/her, and the CEO answers to the Board of Directors, which are not actually employees of the company.
