well, some people write letters of what has happened to them and their family in the past year, to update everyone. but that takes a fair amount of effort. i would recommend buying Christmas cards with a simple message like "Peace on Earth" or "Wishing you Happy Holidays" or something like that and then just signing your name. you can write more if you really want to, but it isn't really necessary.

I think it depends on who you are sending to. I don't like the "here's what I did this year" type of card/letter I get from some people I never talk to and only send to because they are old (childhood) friends. Basically, buy a nice holiday card that says what you want to say for the holidays and then write one or two sentances to personalize the card. I have been sending holiday cards for over 40 years, and that is how I always do mine. Send special ones to close relatives and friends and more generic ones to people you aren't as close to and/or business associates.

I do some variation on Wishing you a Very Happy Holiday and all the best for the New Year!

Short. Sweet. To the point.

here is usually a pre-printed sentiment in the card. I usually write it "Peace" and then sign my name.

Before I sign them I write the following. I rotate every year what I say.

"Celebrate Jesus' birth with family and friends"
"Celebrate Jesus!"
"There's no greater joy that Jesus!"
"We're looking forward to seeing you. God Bless!"
"God's Blessings in 2007."

You should say what you feel and what you want to say... Happy Hoildays and an upcoming New Year. Don't say something you don't want to say.
