1) Yes, as long as you have a drive that will play cd's OR have the files saved to your HD and have an audio out jack for headphones (you would have to look long and hard to find one that DOESN'T have an audio out jack) OR built-in speakers.
2) Yes, as long as you have an internet connection.
3) No, most laptops have alternate input devices for controlling the pointer such as a mini-joystick or a touchpad.
4) With at least one of the following: an intergrated wireless connection (WLAN), a wireless slot card, a Bluetooth connection, or an Ethernet jack. Any good system will have the WLAN built-in at least, and you would have to look really hard to find a system that doesn't have an Ethernet jack.
When you are ready to buy a new system, go to www.stupidcheapcomputers.net. I buy all of my stuff from them, and everything is Vista ready.
Microsoft is about to release its latest operating system, Vista, in January. It’s going to make all of these “bargain” computers nothing but JUNK as soon as it’s released. The reason that you are seeing so many cheap systems on the market right now is because a lot of them CAN’T RUN Vista and the merchants are trying to dump them as hard and fast as they can before Vista shows up and everyone learns what a piece of crap they were sold for $500 (or whatever).
Anyway, I bought a complete, new system from stupidcheapcomputers.net with a warranty for LESS than it would cost me to build it myself or order a custom one from the manufacturer. You can use my frequent buyer code: ATX926. That will get an additional 10% discount at checkout.
I have NEVER had any problems with anything that they have sold me and their customer service is outstanding. Those guys blow my mind.
Good luck!

A laptop is just a little desktop with a built in screen and trackpad. It does anything a desktop does, but is generally slower because of the hard drive and video. You'll be happier with a mouse that the trackpad.

I watch movies on DVD in my OLD Armada 1750.
Yes, you can to all of the above.
I just shove a WiFi card in my PCMCIA slots and access my WiFi point/router which is connected to the Internet. Or I can connect to GoogleWiFi.
The newer laptops have WiFi built in and you can access the Internet all over the place in the US.
I like the touchpad, once I got used to it.

yes, yes, depends on how well you know your system, to access the internet is the same as a desktop but the difference is that with a labtop you more than likely have installed a wireless card which if there is a wireless router near by it will connect and then it will replace the wired option.

We got an extended warranty, which also includes accidental damage for another $79 - water, dropping, electrical problems. Good thing we did because 2 weeks after we got it , my wife dropped it and destroyed the screen.

Hi. Most newer laptops can do all four. They must have a built in NIC or modem for internet access.

All that is GOOD TO GO.
But, a laptop is delicate and breaks easily. It costs more and costs more to upgrade. It does not have as many upgrade slots or USB ports, so upgrading might be limited.
If you don't need a laptop, then don't get one.
Good luck and Happy Computing!
