I own a 1997 Saturn SL2 that I bought as is from a dealership which was changed to a car repair shop. I was never really that fond of my car and the only reason I bought it was that my father had talked me into it since I didn't know much about cars at the time. I drove that car a few times and then I realized some problems...It had hot vapors steaming through the hood, there was oil allover the top of the engine and allover the sparkplug wire boots, it was spraying oil all over the top off under the hood and parts inside, as a result the oil got of the serpentine belt and pulleys and sludged up making it squeal under moderate acceleration. And I had a pool of oil under the car everythime I parked it! I've had the valve cover replaced numerous times with different mechanics and gaskets, I've had the pcv valve cleaned and I put on a new pcv hose and filtration stuff cause there was oil around that too. I've had the part under the valve cover scraped and more!
I just want it fixed!!!

It may be that your Oil Pump Housing Gasket, along with your cam and crank seals, and even your oil pan gasket are leaking excessively. Is there any oil in the coolant? If so, you also have a possible blown head gasket. Take it to a few shops or maybe even the dealership to get it looked at.

Oil leaking from the engine could mean a crack in the radiator, a gasket or the engine itself, somewhere. Take the car back to a legitimate shop that specializes in Saturn SL2 cars and get a real diagnosis of what is wrong with your car. Some unscrupilous shops will tell females anything just to get them to come back and pay for useless work that does not eliminate the problem. Ask your father to go with you if possible.. If your car is smoking and overheating there is an engine oil problem for sure.
Also check your "lemon laws" and your rights when it comes to returning a car that is a "lemon". Never buy a car "as is" unless you have a real mechanic who has your best interest in mind to check it before you pay.

im not sure exactly what engine that is but i believe you have what's called a canister oil filter instead of a regular one....you might want to make sure that the threads aren't stripped out causing it to leak or it might just be the little rubber gasket that sits on the outside of those threads ..if were talking about the same saturn then ive seen it many times...if you dont have a canister filter then i would try to pin point where the oil is coming from and email me or something and i can probably tell you what to do to fix it or atleast point you in the right direction..also you changed the p.c.v. valve(posative crank case ventalater) ..the hose that travels from that to the the intake manifold might have melted or have a hole in it check that because you might have bought a fouled p.c.v valve causing oil to get through

I'm sorry to say it but it's still probably the valve cover. ALL Saturn cars with the single or (expecially) the DOHC models have a HUGE problem with the valve covers leaking. I have re-sealed alot of them. The only way I have found to fix it is to:
Take the cover off, Scrape off ALL of the old gasket both off of the engine and cover. Clean both with carb cleaner and dry. Use black silocone and apply to only the cover. Install and tighten starting in the middle three bolts. Let dry for 12 hours before adding oil.

it could still be you valve cover I would take it off and clean the head and the valve cover make sure you clean it really good and i would get the high Temp silicon. if you have oil in your water or water in your oil then you have a bad head gasket.

make sure that the pvc is clear and the little ball in it rattles. it sounds like you have too much pressure in the crank case . make sure the dip stick is seated properly. those engines are bad about oil pressure sending units leaking.
you must find where it is coming from before you can fix it.
finding the problem is usually harder than fixing it.

i own a repair shop, and you need to take it,and have it checked for blow by gases ,it sounds like it has a lot of blow by to cause this much oil to come out of it,,i have worked on a few of those cars, and none of them have ever gave that kind of a problem before,id have it checked by a good mechanic ,and see what he says about it,,it sounds like the mechanic,,may be part of whats wrong with your car,,good,,luck,i hope this help,s.

with all that oil coming out,it might be a leaking oil pan.why dont you clean the engine off, then you can see where the oil is coming from.
