If you aren't going to use them, why ask? I didn't get cramps and I didn't sit on the toilet all day. If I'm feeling bad enough, I will stay home, either before or after taking a laxative. Not every situation is the same.

Laxative Cramps

The type of laxative makes a difference. Some are not as harsh as others, but yes, they can cause cramping and a feeling of urge and make it hard to go anywhere or do anything. If it's that bad, eat some cheese, which has the opposite effect, and stop taking it. You might reduce how much is taken or how often. Laxatives should not be used long term without consulting with a physician. They can be dangerous, especially if there is something causing your constipation that needs medical care.

Best Wishes,

Sue

yes i have used them and yes they are very painful but it also depends on the brand. they all feel a little differently. they work by making the lining of the intestines contract. the urges are sometimes terrible and sometimes the person might have accidents if they dont make it to the bathroom. there are other laxatives that work just as well and dont come the side effects as stimilant ones. i wouldnt recomend leaving the house because of the chance of accidents. the pain comes in waves so one second it might not be that bad but the next horrible. so its not like you cant do anything but you might have to take breaks. i hope this helps a little. good luck!

Yes they can hurt very bad. Depends on which 1 you use. I have found correctol to be the worst. Exlax isn't near as bad. I am talking about the pill form not chewable. With correctol I have woke up doubled over , broke out in cold sweats, so sick I didn't think I could walk. Neadless to say I did't take anymore.

yes, harsh laxatives can give severe cramps.. (I dont know if you are female, but it is similar to extreme menstral cramps)
You probably will be set up for 24hours till all the gunk goes through your system and then the muscles stop spasming and relax.. Drink loads of water to help flush out the system.
And no its almost virtually impossible to hold it in.. Sounds gross, but true.. Sometimes you have to resort of using jumbo menstal pads just to protect your undies inbetween episodes...

yes, they can keep you confined at home,
because you don't know when the 'urge'
to go will come upon, you; they can give u
'cramps' as they are stimulating your 'bowel'
to 'kick-in' I have done this for medical tests,
so I know, not pleasant.
