What do you recommend for me? I don't use that antibacterial stuff on my ears or clean them. I wear earrings about 4 times a week for about 2 hours each times. Since I got my ears pierced by my doctor when I was just born I have never used any cleaner for my ears. I used to be allergic to earrings that weren't real and for the last year I haven't been. Suddenly for the last week whenever I wore earrings my ears turned red so my parents said I may be getting an allergic reaction. Do you recommend me getting some of that cleaning stuff for ears or going back to only wearing real earrings? Also are there any other choices?

You could be developing a sensitivity to the metal used in the earrings you wear. Or you could be wearing cheap ones - they often use a poor grade of metal on cheap earrings and tiny flakes of the metal surface can break off and infect the tiny hole.

The best "cleaning" stuff for pierced ears is hydrogen peroxide - very inexpensive in the drug stores, very effective, and not harmful to your skin, your piercing, or the earrings.

I would suggest you switch to earrings that are either sterling silver, real gold, or nickel-plated to prevent the problem.

Oh wow, it is so funny that you should ask this question. The same exact thing has been happening to me for the past 10 years of my life. I am 20 years old. I have tried all the cleaners out there, and no matter what I do, if I wear fake earrings, my earlobes swell and this puss comes out of them. Not to mention the fact that they itch really bad. I have come to find that no matter what I try, only when I wear real earrings does this seem to not happen. So, my answer is yes, you should only wear real earrings when you can. If you are going on a date or something for a few hours, fake ones should be fine.

Start cleaning your ears for a couple days and wear fake earrings. Don't clean your ears for the next few days, if you you are still allergic to them go back to only real earrings

I would wash all your earrings in alcohol. Then use alcohol on your ears twice a day and only wear hypo-allergenic earrings for at least 2 weeks or at least one week past when the redness stops. Then try other earrings. If the redness returns, you'll know it was an allergy. If not, you had bacteria spreading around on your unclean earrings.

My ears became sensitive after years and now I can wear only gold.

Definitely try to wear real silver or gold ones. I'm in the same boat. I still wear the cheap fake ones from forever 21 but i only wear them for a couple hours when i go out and i make sure to clean them with rubbing alcohol before I use them.

my ears have done that before i don't think it's an allergic reaction but it could be so well i have mine pierced too and i don't use the cleaner stuff but i say go back to real earings and see if that makes your ears turn red then clean them with alcahol and if it doesn't then i guess you allergic again....good luck on that...

I recommend wearing hypoallergenic earrings only. That should take care of your problem. Hydrogen Peroxide is the best cleaner to use for your ears and earrings.

I had the same problem - try to wear real earrings as much as possible or buy nickel free earrings. Its the nickel in the earrings that you are probably allergic to.
