Why is it that there is a prejudice or bad impression on smokers?

like people tend to think that oh if you smoke you must be the bad sort? lots of negativity associated with it?

First off, smoking is disgusting. Non-smokers hate to be around someone puffing away without regard to the feelings of others. That is why there is such a social stigma: this seeming disregard for others.

I am a smoker and I am bad to the bone. they even have made up songs about me about how bad I am. and I fly my Confederate flag and play my country songs loud. and drink my beer and have some wonderful Lady's around me.my x wifes grand pa pa lived to be over a hundred and he smoked and drank all his life.and I love God , so there.& I eat lots of garlic. like I smoke cigs, and dont mind bad breath.and if anyone dont like my breaths smell, they can leave my home..if I am in public I dont smoke were I am not supposed to.ands ask people in there homes if I may smoke, I have respect.

Smokers stink to high-heaven! They cannot smell it, but all non-smokers can. Smokers who don't bathe regularly are the worst smelling of all. We just don't enjoy hanging around the odor.

Well, it's not a bright thing to do habitually, it stinks, is a health hazard and a fire hazard.

People are going to assume in this day and age that if you smoke, you are stupid.

I don't think smokers are bad necessarily but they are doing something that can and does harm those around them,and that ticks people off.
