1)Start making regular trips with a full truck (or at least a full bag of clothes, books, etc. etc. etc.) to Goodwill or the nearest thrift shop or charity.
2)Reduce the number of commitments & activities you involve yourself in - gradually - think about what you value more, then do I value this more than the free time in my simpler life or not?
3)Sell or donate the television. { Yes, I am serious.}
4)Seriously consider whether you have the number of animals you want or would you rather have less? Start finding homes for the "extras" if any.
5) Ditch the alcohol - a real big complicator by any measure.
6) Set some time aside for meditation every morning. Its easy to learn & the results are worthwhile. Also, you will feel better all day, simpler or complicated.
7) Ditch the tobacco if applicable - another complicator.
8) Cut up the credit cards. Pay off the balances. Close the accounts. Buy only what you can afford.
9) Focus on the NOW moment. Learn present moment thinking as a habit. Overspending involves fantsies in the future that never come to be in the present. Stay in the present & save money & time.
10) Find people in your area who have done this & talk to them.
Good Luck!
;-)

My husband, three kids and I were drowning in debt. Luckily for us, my husbands' parents are AWESOME. .. they had their (huge) basement finished (with a living room, two BIG bedrooms, bath, kitchen, storage) and let us come live with them. We sold our house, paid off ONE of the four credit cards with the profit, I tossed crap that I didn't want to store in storage for three or four years. "Purging" all the 'extra' crap in our crawl space and house felt GREAT. .. I felt lighter. Living with my in laws is fine 90% of the time. I have reason to want to save up and move on, but for now we are living very simplified. If we didn't have this as an option, we probably would've gotten a double wide trailer so we can pay off debt and save up to get ahead. We've lived here for 2 years, and in 18 months we'll be able to move out. I look forward to having my own home again, and I've learned valuable life lessons about money and how to not let it rule your life. Live in your means. I know I will from now on.

I live alone,
got a dog,
sleep when I am tired,
eat when I am hungry.
Do for a living what I do for fun.
Don't use credit cards (just debit)
Don't wear a watch.
Embrace my freedom with a smile on my face.
